Save and publish a flow
Save a draft, validate the flow and publish it so people start to enter.
A flow only admits people after you publish it. Until then you can save as often as you like.
Before you start
- Saving a draft needs the create and manage permission. Publishing needs the publish permission, and the Save & publish button only appears with it.
- Message steps need a published template, and the entry needs its event, schedule, segment or business event.
- A draft never sends. In Test, messages are captured and only people on the allowlist receive real ones.
Save a draft
- In the flow editor, select Save draft.

Saving a new flow creates it as a Draft and opens its detail page. Saving an existing draft keeps you in the editor and shows Draft saved. To get back to a draft later, open it from the Flows list and choose More actions, then Edit draft. To abandon your edits, select Cancel.
Check the flow
The checks run when you publish. To run them first, open the flow and choose More actions, then Validate. The page shows The graph and settings are valid. or a list of problems with a code and a message.
Publish
- In the flow editor, select Save & publish. It saves, checks the flow and publishes it in one go, and opens the flow page. Or open a saved draft and select Publish, then confirm in Publish flow?.
- The canvas is frozen as a new version.

After you publish:
- The status becomes Active and the list shows a version number.
- You can rename and re-condition branches on a published flow, but not add or remove them.
- The entry type is locked.
If a check fails, the editor shows the reason at the top. Fix it and publish again.
Pause, stop and archive
Open the flow and use More actions:
| Action | When | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Pause | Active | Pauses the flow until you resume it. |
| Resume | Paused | Continues. |
| Stop | Active or paused | Cancels active instances; nobody else enters. |
| Archive | Draft or stopped | Keeps history; the flow can no longer be edited. |
See Monitor a flow.
