Audience overview
How users, segments and RFM models fit together, and which page to read for each task.
An audience is a group of people you want to reach. TrueEngage builds audiences from what your app and your servers send: who people are (attributes) and what they did (events). The Audience section of the console is where you look at individual people, define groups of them, and score them by buying habits.
Key concepts
- User. One person's profile. It holds their ids, contact details, attributes, devices and activity. You find users in Users.
- Segment. A saved audience defined by a rule, such as "placed an order in the last 30 days". A campaign, a flow or a routing rule picks a segment to decide who it applies to. Segments live in Segments.
- RFM model. A model that scores every customer on how Recently and how Frequently they did one event, then sorts them into named groups such as Champions and At risk. RFM models live in RFM Segments, and a group can be saved as a segment.
- Environment. Every user, segment and model belongs to Test or Live. They never mix. A segment in Test does not exist in Live until you promote it.
Which page for which task
| I want to | Read |
|---|---|
| Look up one person by mobile, email or id | Find a user |

| Define a new audience with attributes, events and nested groups | Build a segment |
| Check a segment's size, recount it or see its members | Open a segment |
| Set up customer groups by purchase habit | Group customers with RFM models |
| See how those groups change and act on them | Read RFM results |
How the pieces connect
- Your app sends events and attributes. TrueEngage turns them into users.
- You write a segment rule over those users, or you score them with an RFM model and save a group as a segment.
- You choose the segment as the audience of a campaign or flow. Every send still passes the send gate: consent, frequency caps, quiet hours and the Test allowlist.
Good to know
- Email and mobile numbers are masked in lists and on profiles. A full value is shown only after you give a reason, and every reveal is recorded in the audit log.
- Segment sizes are computed on a schedule. A recount shows the live number. See Open a segment.
